I loved this recipe book. As the title says, this is an Objective-C recipe book, not an iOS recipe book. Pretty much all the recipes deal with the NS-prefixed classes, like NSString, NSNumber, NSArray, NSData, NSDate, NSFileManager, NSThread, NSOperationQueue, NSManagedObject, etc. The recipes are clearly described and self contained. The sample code is very readable and easy to understand even if you skip the descriptive text. Also, since it's pure Objective-C, this book is great for both iOS developers and Mac developers.
You won't learn Objective-C from scratch with this book, but it will definitely bring you a deeper understanding of the language. It's also a great desktop reference book for some of the darker corners of the Objective-C language -- stuff like array filtering, file operations, threading, core data, etc.
On the negative side, I'd like to see more on certain topics (exceptions, macros, ARC), but mostly I wished there was more about the Objective-C runtime and all of the cool stuff it can do. Still, I give it 4 stars.
excellent organization. More like an encyclopedia than cookbook. I would like to see more authors use this type of template for developing programming concepts and solutions.
I liked the first section. It presented recipes that I could use quickly without having to understand them completely and without having to look up something else all the time. I haven't got to the back of the back of the book. I am not writing a great work.
